Surfing is my most favorite hobby to this day. I enjoy grabbing the boards and driving down to the beach to spend hours catching and riding waves. I love just being in the water and being around good company. Surprisingly growing up in Southern California you would expect that I started surfing when I was little but the truth is that I didn't start surfing until I was at the age of 21. I am pretty limited also on how often I can go because I have been in classes or working in states that don't have waves so I take every chance I get to head to California and enjoy the surf.
Being a lad in Elementary school I recall several times when my grandpa Andrew would pick me up from school or on the weekend and we would drive out to the middle of nowhere. I mostly got excited doing this because it meant that we were going to go flying in his homebuilt aircraft which is called a Rutan VariEze. We would fly over mountains and above the clouds; we would even fly over where I lived. Ever since I was little it has been my dream to fly on my own. Eventually, when time permits, I will apply to become a recreational pilot just like my grandpa and share the passion of flying with my kids.
Going along with flying I used to watch videos of people skydiving and it wasn’t until I turned 18 that I wanted to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. Since my birthday was in November it was a little cold to try and go skydiving so I decided to place an order on a day to go instead. Surprisingly I decided to go on February 14th, yes Valentine’s Day, to jump. I waited 3 months and the day finally came. I was more nervous driving out to the airport near Lake Elsinore than I was when I actually got into the plane. Once up at 12,000ft it was time to say goodbye, out we went and the rest was history.
My 16th year of life was probably my most exciting, I got my driver’s license, I got a newer car to drive that was even stick shift, I was a lone racer on the streets as I thought I was. That year too my family got dirt bikes and ATV's. Yeah it was a year to remember. My favorite place to go was Glamis, the sand dune capital of the world, at least for California. It was a blast heading out there and jumping off dune after dune and racing around and praying you didn’t get stuck in a witches eye, a massive hole in the sand that is really difficult to get out of.
